Director Kevin Macdonald reveals the extraordinary level of detail that went into recreating John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Bank Street apartment in the West Village, where they lived before moving to the Dakota, for the HBO documentary One to One.

Using dozens of archival photographs, the team hunted down the exact guitar and amplifier Lennon used, commissioned a custom-woven replica of their original bedspread, tracked down period-accurate editions of the books they owned, and even recreated the letters John was writing at the time.

Macdonald describes how this meticulous research and authentic production design allowed the film to rebuild John and Yoko’s 1970s New York City home with remarkable accuracy, giving viewers an intimate and immersive look into their life during that pivotal period.
